What Causes Employee Burnout and What Can I Do About It?

Human resources consultants and executive search consultants have been working hard the last few weeks to determine what the emerging HR trends for 2017 will be. Now, we have a more comprehensive look at what some growing trends may be based on information from the end of 2016 and what trends have started to emerge in the last year.

  • The Employee Experience
    Approximately 22% of new hires leave their positions within 45 days of being hired. Some of the reasons for this include poor performance and temperament issues, but now employers are trying to put more focus on the employee experience in the workplace. This new trend is being driven by the need to make the workplace a more professionally fulfilling environment. Employers are beginning to ask what perks and amenities matter most to employees and how these things can be implemented to help prevent burnout.
  • The Digital Workplace
    We live in an increasingly technological age. Movies, dating, and even ordering takeout have evolved into tasks that can be completed with a few simple swipes of your thumb or index finger. Now, employers are attempting to implement more of this digital world into the workplace. In fact, approximately 47% of executives surveyed believe that digital will have an impact on over half of sales by 2020.
  • Workplace Culture
    Toxic work culture has been linked to a string of company scandals and fall-outs in recent years, and it's looking like 2017 is going to bring a much-needed change to that aspect of human resources. A recent study conducted by Columbia and Duke University concluded that effective workplace culture is less likely to result in things like "short-termism," unethical behaviors, and quarterly earnings padding.
